Small tips for saving Big money and getting Debt Free
1. Drive less - in 2007 the IRS mileage rate rose to 48.5 cents per mile. This seems like a lot, but the IRS figures in all the expenses of running a car, not just the gas. This includes tires, depreciation, oil changes, repairs, etc. Now think about it. If you just drove 10 miles less a day, that's 300 miles less a month, which comes out to around $145 a month. That's a pretty good savings.
2. No drinks when eating out. No Starbucks coffees. This is good for your health and for your water. Think about it…. alcohol and caffeine bad for you and expensive; water is good for you and free…easy choice.
3. Coupons, coupons, coupons.
4. See the family this year instead of Mickey Mouse. Take a more relaxed and inexpensive vacation. Make a short drive to see family or just hang out in your own town and visit all those local sites you've never seen. Big savings and less travel hassle.
5. Get a cheap, reliable sedan instead of that $45,000 SUV.
6. Don't listen to what your real estate agent says you can afford in a house. Make your own determination.
7. Go green. Many ways of helping the planet by conserving can also lower your monthly expenses. Using less water, electricity, natural gas, etc. are great for conserving, but also will save you dollars.
8. Plan before shopping. Create a list of what you need before you shop and then stick to it. Don't get caught up in buying something just because it's a good deal. Only buy what you need.
9. Don't shop for pleasure. If shopping is form of social entertainment for you, find something else to do.
